Zagreb, Croatia – April 27, 2024: The culmination of the AccESD (Accelerating Education on Sustainable Development) project was marked by a series of impactful events, aimed at leveraging the potential of grassroots sport clubs to foster sustainable development. The project’s final phase, highlighted by the Local Action 2, ESD Module 4, and the final project meeting, showcased the significant achievements and laid the groundwork for future initiatives.

Local Action 2: A Day of Environmental Engagement and Community Unity

Hosted by Kajak Kanu Klub Mladost (KKKM), Local Action 2 was a pivotal event held at Jarun Lake in Zagreb. This event was designed to promote sustainability and community engagement through hands-on activities. A diverse group of 51 participants, including veterans, elderly women, and Ukrainian refugees, took part in environmental conservation efforts. The day’s activities included a trash collection initiative along the Sava river and Jarun lake, followed by a group canoeing session, underscoring the theme of environmental stewardship and community solidarity.

The objectives of Local Action 2 included promoting sustainability, fostering community engagement, ensuring inclusive participation, and reinforcing eco-friendly practices. The event successfully raised environmental awareness and demonstrated the inclusive and unifying power of sport.

ESD Module 4: Practical Actions for Tackling Climate Change

The final educational module, themed “What Can I Do to Help Tackle Climate Change?”, provided participants with practical tools and knowledge to reduce their carbon footprint and promote sustainability. Organised by Active Citizens (AC), the session included presentations on best practices in sustainability education and shared innovative ideas among participating organisations. Activities like “Two Truths and a Lie” and “Evaluating Our Habits for a Greener Future” encouraged participants to reflect on personal and community sustainability practices.
